A method for the production of bulky spun yarns comprises making tows of polypropylene containing conjugate filaments which have been stretched at a temperature below 60‹C, into slivers, spinning the slivers into spun yarn and subjecting the spun yarns, which may be in the form of knitted or woven fabric, to a heat treatment at a temperature at least 20‹C higher than the stretching temperature. The polypropylene-containing conjugate filaments may be the only component of the spun yarn, or the yarn may be formed from a blend of slivers. In the case of a blend, it is preferred that at least 40% is the polyproylene-containing conjugate filament. The yarns produced have good stretch and high bulk. The spun yarn may be heat treated by means of dry heat, hot water or steam, this heat treatment developing crimps in the filaments.
