Abstract

1,073,538. Boxes; packages. STEIGER A.G., LITHOGRAPHIE, DRUCKEREI, CARTONNAGEFABRIK. Nov. 24, 1964 [Nov. 27, 1963], No. 47667/64. Headings B8C and B8P. A cardboard or like material blank for a box is coated on one side with a thermoplastic material and is shaped so as to have a rectangular base (1), Fig. 2 (not shown), two opposite rectangular sides (18, 19) folded-up from the base and two opposite triangular end walls (6, 7) similarly folded-up from the base. Fold lines (21) &c. between the side and end walls and fold lines along the triangular end walls form outwardly-bent flaps (14-17) along the edges of the latter, which engage the side walls and are welded thereto by pressure between two electrodes. Alternatively, flaps are provided along the edges of the rectangular sides instead of the triangular end walls, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) these side flaps being welded to the inner edges of the triangular end walls. When the contents of the box are to be sealed-in under a reduced or increased pressure, e.g. with a protective gas, the joint between the two rectangular sides (18, 19) is at first left unsealed. A nozzle for air removal or replacement is then inserted in the slot thus formed, and following its removal the slot is sealed by two lateral welding electrodes.
