Abstract

1,072,721. Lifting beams with automatic couplings. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Oct. 5, 1964 [Oct. 4, 1963], No. 39281/63. Heading B8H. Crane hooks 18 are attached to a lifting beam 12 by links 24 which are pivoted from the position shown on the left of Fig. 1 to that shown on the right when the bottom of the hooks presses down on pins 36 attached to arms 34 of the links 24. The links are held in their hook engaging position by catches 44 which are pivoted to one of the links and engage pins 52 on the other link of each pair. To release the hooks the beam and hooks are lowered until the latter rest on the pins 36. The catches 44 are now raised by handles 48 so that when the hooks are slowly raised the links 24 move outwards to the disengaged position under their own weight.
