[Also in Division F2] A braking roller, particularly for roller tracks, comprises a fixed shaft 6 on which is secured a cage formed of apertured plates 7, 9 and studs 8, the cage housing gears 3, 4, of which the former is driven via a rubber-covered floating drive wheel 2 engaging the interior surface of the roller barrel 1, and the latter is carried by a rotating sleeve 5 on which is mounted for sliding movement, but non-rotatably, a disc 20 engageable by cams 19 formed by levers 18 pivoted on flange 15 of the sleeve and carrying adjustable inertia weights 17, 17<SP>1</SP>. When the roller barrel is driven by passage of a load across it, the sleeve 5 is driven through wheel 3 and the gearing at a faster rate, whereby the weights 17, 17<SP>1</SP> to fly out when the speed is high enough to overcome a spring 21, so causing the levers to pivot, and through cams 19 to apply the disc 20 against a disc 10 of friction material which is secured to the plate 9.
