Abstract

737,774. Friction clutches. NATIONAL MACHINERY CO. Oct. 7,1953, No. 27535/53. Class 80 (2). A friction clutch, particularly for heavy duty machinery, has a hub member 11, 12 to which are keyed clutch members 16 separated by a friction disc 37. A driving member 28 has a flange 29 to which is secured a gear 31 and cover 52. Cylindrical keys 36 engage semi-cylindrical recesses in the flange 29 and in the friction disc 37 and a piston 47 to lock the parts against relative rotational movement. The clutch is held disengaged by springs and is engaged by fluid pressure admitted between the piston 47 and cover 52. The driving member 28 is mounted on the hub by roller bearings 21.
