Abstract

1322315 Friction clutches; clutch control AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO LTD 1 Feb 1972 [8 March 1971] 6266/71 Headings F2C and F2L A wet friction clutch for a motor vehicle is continuously supplied with oil from the pump of the engine lubrication system through the crank-shaft 21 (passage 55) and a restriction 59. The oil passes through the clutch (driven plates 35 and 36 not being circumferentially continuous) and returns to the engine sump 16 through hole 61 in the clutch casing. The clutch comprises driven discs 35 and 36 and presser plates 33 and 34 splined to the casing, itself attached to a flywheel 22, a diaphragm spring 38 biasing the clutch into engagement and a hydraulically operated annular piston 52 disengaging the clutch through release bearing 51. A stop 49 in the form of a flange limits movement of the release bearing 51 in the disengagement direction, and the piston 52 may be supplied with pressure from a master cylinder.
