Abstract
1,160,302. Coating apparatus; spray producers. A. PODESTA and C. VIGNATI [trading as VETRI INDUSTRIALI] 26 Aug., 1966 [27 Aug., 1965], No. 38456/66. Headings B2F and B2L. Apparatus for the distribution of a sealing compound on the internal face of a cap comprises a cap support 360 for holding the cap 2 stationary and a closable centrifugal distributor comprising a conical plate 332 which is rotatably driven around an axis 1 and slidable parallel with this axis, and a back plate 320 freely mounted and rotatable in the same way by the action of the conical plate in the closed position of the distibutor. In the preferred embodiment shown the apparatus consists of a fixed part 31, a part 32 which is freely mounted and rotatable on bearings 321 and a part 33 which is rotated by means of a motor (not shown) and can slide axially and which carries the conical plate 332 forming part of the distributor. The part 33 is urged upwards by a spring 338 to a position which closes the gap between faces 333 and 322 of the members 332 and 320 and the part 33 can be moved downwards against the action of spring 338 so as to open the distributor gap by means of an arm 335 acting on plate 334. In operation pipe 312 is connected to a reservoir containing the sealing compound under slight pressure so that the spaces 341, 342 in the apparatus are filled with the sealing compound. The cap 2 is placed on plate 360 and is held thereon co-axially with axis 1 'by magnetic or vacuum means. The shaft 330 of part 33 is then rotated and the distributor and the cap brought into a position such that the surfaces 322 and 333 are exactly opposite the zone where it is desired to place the sealing compound (right-hand side of the figure). The arm 335 is then actuated to press on plate 334 and thus move the shaft 330 and conical plate 332 downwards to separate the surfaces 322 and 333 and open the distributor. The sealing compound is thus projected on to the inner rim of the cap 2 by centrifugal force and the quantity deposited for a given period of opening of distributor depends on the speed of rotation and the amplitude of the sliding movement of the shaft 330. After the compound has been deposited the distributor is closed by reverse action of arm 335, the cap and the distributor are spaced from one another and the cap moved away to be baked.
