A powder distributer comprises an applicator roller 3 mounted below a hopper 4 and driven by means of a friction plate 7 which is rotated by means of a drive disc mounted on the shaft 11 of ground wheels 2 and adjustable along the shaft 11 so that the position of contact between the drive disc and the friction plate 7 can be altered to vary the speed of the friction plate. The rear of the machine is supported by small wheels 2 and a brush 19 is provided to spread powder dropped by the roller.
