Abstract

1,070,282. Vehicle washing units. ALD Inc. April 21, 1964 [April 22, 1963], No. 16569/64. Heading B7J. Vehicle-washing unit comprises a cleansing liquid tank 26 supplied with liquid detergent and hot water, a rinsing water supply conduit (72), Fig. 3 (not shown), and a pump 64 which delivers cleansing liquid or rinsing water via a flexible conduit 62 to a portable fan-spray gun 60 on which are mounted three buttons (74), Fig. 3 (not shown), controlling means which cause or prevent the flow of cleansing or rinsing water to the gun 60. The liquid detergent is supplied from a tank 24 by a pump 32 to the tank 26 through a conduit 40 and a manually adjustable valve 42 therein which bleeds-off a portion of the detergent in the conduit 40, the rest being returned to the tank 24. The hot water is supplied to the tank 26 under pressure through a conduit 48 and a valve 50 controlled simultaneously with the pump 32 by a rubber diaphragm switch 52 and rubber diaphragm overflow and underflow switches 56, (54). Depressing the first button (74) opens a valve (68) in the conduit 70 and starts the pump 64 so that cleansing liquid is supplied through the conduit 62 to the gun 60. Depressing the second button opens another valve (68) in the rinsing water conduit (72) and closes conduit (70), so that rinsing water is pumped through the conduit 62 to the grin 60. Depressing the third button (74) closes both valves (68) and deenergizes the pump 64 so that there is no flow to the gun 60. The apparatus is controlled by a timer mechanism operated by coins inserted in a receptacle 76, and controlling the power supply to a motor 66 which drives the pump 64 and to valves (68). A thermostaticallycontrolled heating element 58 is disposed in the tank 26. The tanks 24, 26 and associated ports form a supply unit (18) which is disposed within a walled enclosure 20 at one side of a self-draining still 10. In Fig. 2,(not shown), two stalls are disposed side-by-side and are supplied from a single supply unit. In another embodiment of the supply unit, Fig. 5 (not shown), two delivery pumps (71), (73) replace the single pump 64 and each is incorporated into a circuit similar to that in which the pump 64 is used. There are two separate valves (81), (83) on the cleansing liquid tank (26) to allow or prevent cleansing liquid being passed via separate conduits (74), (75) to the separate pumps (73), (71) and thence to two separate guns disposed in separate stalls. Similarly, a double valve (69) in the rinsing water conduit (49), (67) controls the flow of rinsing water via separate conduits (85), (87) to the pumps and to the guns.
