Abstract

1,068,709. Compressor pumps. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Oct. 1, 1965 [Oct. 29, 1964], No. 41836/65. Heading F1N. A pump, Fig. 1 (not shown) especially for use in pumping radioactive gases comprises a liquid e. g. mercury piston disposed between two coaxial stainless steel bellows (27, 29) reciprocable to alternately force the mercury into and out of a cylinder head (1) so that gas admitted to the head through an inlet valve (4) is pumped past an axially aligned automatic delivery valve (6). The bellows (27, 29) are moved through their compression stroke by a rod (22) reciprocated by a crank-shaft (18) driven by a motor (25) and having a disc (30) arranged to lilt a ring (28) sealing the lower ends of the bellows. The bellows are moved through their suction stroke by springs (32). At the commencement of the compression stroke a tubular member 33 slidable in a sleeve (26) integral with the rod (22) engages the seat (5) of the inlet valve (4) and is maintained in contact therewith by a spring (35).
