Abstract

1,066,173. Tying moving bundles. B. H. BUNN CO. March 24, 1964 [May 6, 1963 (2)], No. 9946/66. Divided out of 1,066,171. Heading B8C. In a machine for tying two lengths of twine, at rightangles to each other, around a bundle of articles, e.g. envelopes, as described in Specification 1,066,171, the bundles are carried by conveyer 20, Fig. 1, to a first tying station 26 which is set in motion by the bundle contacting a mechanical trip 154. If the tension in twine arm 103 falls below a certain amount either because the twine has broken or run out, it operates a switch 162, Fig. 5 (not shown), which stops the whole machine in order to prevent an untied bundle from continuing to a subsequent tying station. The partially tied bundle is then conveyed by a transfer mechanism 31 to the second tying machine 34, having previously been turned through 90 degrees by an inclined cam-plate 114, Fig. 2 (not shown). As the bundle moves along a table 30 of the transfer mechanism, it closes a switch 183, Fig. 1, subsequently it closes a switch 176 which, when switch 177 is closed by means on the conveyer 31, causes the second tying machine 34 to be energized through a latching relay 168. If no bundle is delivered to the table 30 the switches 176, 183 will not be operated and the second tying machine will not be set in motion. Similarly, if the trip 154 of the first tying machine is not operated, this machine will not be set in motion either. The resetting operation of the relay 168 is controlled by a switch 178 which is in the path of motion of a projection 179 on the frame of the twine arm of the second tying machine 34.
