Abstract

A textile machine comprises in combination a spinning or like machine for producing packages which are rewound in a multi-station winding machine, means to convey packages from the spinning &c. machine to the individual stations of the winding-machine, means to convey exhausted cops and other tubes having a thread-residue from the winding machine, and means to separate the exhausted cops from said other cops and to return the exhausted cops to the spinning machine. Means may also be provided to separate from said other cops those with a residue of predetermined size from those with a residue of less than this size and return the former to the winding machine. Cops produced in a spinning machine 1, Fig. 1, not shown, are conveyed at 7 to be rewound in a winding machine 2. Used cops from this are conveyed at 9 to a sorting-device 3 which selects those with a residual winding sufficient to justify their return to the winding machine; those which fail the test at 3 pass to a second sorting-device 4. This allows completely empty cops to pass to a conveyer 9 to a conveyer 10 supplying the spinning machine. The remaining cops pass to a stripper 6 and thence by conveyers 9a, 10 to the spinning machine. From the device 3, where those cops with a residual winding sufficient to justify their return to the winding-machine are selected, are passed to means 5 for finding an end and rewinding it as a tip-bunch whence they proceed by conveyers 8, 7 to the winding machine. In Fig. 2 not shown, a used cop 2d with a winding of sufficient size closes contacts 302 to operate an ejector 305 which transfers the cop to a shoot 306 when it is held by a stop 307.
