Abstract

1,065,836. Cartons. HOERNER BOXES Inc. Jan. 4, 1966 [Jan. 4, 1965], No. 347/66. Heading B8P. A scored and slotted blank having side and end walls (20, 24); (18, 22), respectively, Fig. 1 (not shown), with corresponding flaps (18a, 18b) at the ends, folded-up to make a tubeshaped carton with the ends closed by the flaps, has at least a part of the flaps coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive (36) and another part coated with a release agent which prevents sticking to the adhesive. When formed into a tube which before erection into a carton is folded flat for stacking, the adhesive coated and release agent coated surfaces lie adjacent each other. When the tube is later erected into a carton, the adhesive coated surfaces on the flaps stick to other flap areas which have not been coated with release agent. The release agent may be a silicone polymer with a cellulose additive. The blank may be folded flat in tube form with the adhesive and release-agent coated surfaces inside and adjacent, or outside; in the latter case the surfaces are so arranged that when stacked the adhesive surfaces on one tube lie adjacent the release agent coated surfaces on the next. For rectangular cartons, part only of the flaps may be coated. In Fig.4 (not shown), pressure-sensitive adhesive (76) covers the whole of the short end wall flaps (58a, 62a), and release agent (78) is coated on correspondingly sized areas only of the relatively long side wall flaps. When folded flat about a score line (54), the areas of release agent (78) lie over the adhesive (76). In another form, pressure-sensitive adhesive (90a, 91a), Fig. 9 (not shown), is provided on areas at the ends of long side wall flaps (60a &c.) with a coating of a release agent (63a) on an area at a position intermediate the adhesive. Half the areas of end wall flaps (58a) also are coated with release agent (92a). In yet another form, pressure sensitive adhesive (124a), Fig. 11 (not shown), is coated on areas adjacent two ends of closure flaps (102), a small adjacent area also being coated with release agent (124b). Areas (122) on the end wall flaps are also coated with release agent. If a blank is folded for stacking with pressure-sensitive adhesive outside, a strip of release-agent coated material (80), Fig. 7 (not shown), may be applied to the adhesive, and pealed off before erection of the carton.
