Abstract
In a continuous method of hydrogenating edible oil or deodorizing it with steam, a mixture of atomized oil with the gas or vapour is subjected to sonic, sub-sonic or ultrasonic vibrations rapidly to change the inter-faces. In an apparatus (Fig. 1, not shown) heated oil atomized by a slinger disc (13) and steam spray (17) are introduced into a container (which may be under reduced pressure) having ultrasonic vibrations (20); deodorized oil is discharged at the bottom (21) and steam and vaporized impurities at the top (18). In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) steam and oil are supplied by pipes (21, 22) to an atomizing device (27) and the mixture then passes through a chamber (28) having electrostrictive or magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducers (29). In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the atomizers and transducers are combined in a single atomizer (33) operating at ultrasonic frequencies.ALSO:In a continuous method of hydrogenating edible oil or deodorizing it with steam, a mixture of atomized oil with the gas or vapour is subjected to sonic, sub-sonic or ultrasonic vibrations rapidly to change the interfaces.
