237,325. Nyrop, J. E. April 3, 1924. Soaps, processes and apparatus for making.-A method of emulsifying or atomizing liquids or liquid gas mixtures consists in feeding the liquid or the mixture to the central part of a rapidlyrevolving member comprising horizontal plates spaced apart, the space being filled, with the exception of a central part, with a packing material, such as wire netting, glass-wool, or granulated pumice. The liquid or liquid and gas is fed by a pipe 3 to the centre space 9 between two horizontal discs 8 revolving in a container 1 about a shaft 2. The space between the plates is filled with wire netting, glass-wool, or other packing material 10. The emulsification or atomization may be facilitated by introducing the liquid-gas mixture under high pressure. In an example, a mixture of fatty oil, emulsifying agent, and aqueous alkali is fed to the apparatus to produce a soap, the usual boiling operation being thereby eliminated. The container 1 may be heated or cooled, and hot or cold air may be passed therethrough, and in addition the substances may be fed to the apparatus through the shaft 2.
