Abstract

[Also in Division H2] In order to reduce vibration produced by a shaded pole motor, used for driving sound reproducing apparatus, the rotor bearing plates are inherently resilient in the radial direction and the number of slots on the rotor is chosen so that the frequency of the electromagnetic excitation is higher than the natural frequency of the rotor. The bearing plates are constructed as resilient metal or plastic brackets or they may comprise a number of webs either having weak resilient places or resilient bending points. Alternatively a resilient packing may be interposed between the bearing plates and the stator. Preferably the self-lubricating sintered bearings used are self-aligning and are supported in part hemispherical supports. Axially projecting fan blades on the rotor are used to provide internal cooling.
