Abstract

769,223. Water turbine-driven generators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 11, 1955 [Sept. 17, 1954], No. 27021/54. Class 35. In an alternator driven by a vertical spindle water wheel, the salient pole rotor surrounds the stator and is supported by a spider from which depends the shaft to which the water wheel is connected. As shown, the rotor 3, 4 is carried on a spider 5 supported by thrust bearing 8 and guide bearings 10, 11, while the exciter 12 may be carried on support 13, or, alternatively, so that its rotor is between bearings 10 and 11. The cooling air circuit includes coolers 17 and ducts 16, and the fanning action of the rotor may be assisted by separate or integral fans. Specification 672,001 is referred to.
