Abstract

A coating composition or paint with heat-insulating, anti-condensation, fire-retardant, abrasion and corrosion-resisting properties comprises the floatable fraction of pulverized fuel ash, known as "floaters," in a solution or colloidal solution of a binder.ALSO:A protective surface coating composition comprises the floatable fraction of pulverized fuel ash, known as "floaters," in a solution or colloidal solution of a binder. In Examples I, II and IV the binder is a mixture of one or more chlorinated rubbers ("Alloprene"-Registered Trade Mark) with one or more chlorinated paraffin waxes, and in Example III a polyvinyl acetate emulsion. Other constituents of these examples are thickening agents (dimethyl octadecyl ammonium montmorillonite, modified hydrogenated castor oil or aqueous methyl cellulose), solvents (industrial alcohol, "Aromasol H" (Registered Trade Mark), white spirit or water), plasticizers (dibutyl phthalate) and pigments (titanium and/or barytes).
