A compressor 29 is supported by a cradle 30/32 mounted at the rear of a tractor and is driven through a shaft 28, with universal joints at each end, and a shaft 12, 23 which extends through the rear axle casing 11 and replaces the normal drive-shaft connecting the gear-box or automatic transmission and rear axle and/or power take-off drive. In the embodiment a power-take-off is driven from shaft 12 through gear pair 15, 16.
