May 4, 1916 Limbs, artificial.-The flexing of an elbow or knee joint is effected by an appendage d' which passes over a pulley f on the upper member and is connected to a sector c carried by the lower arm. A locking device for the joint comprises a spring-pressed detent i adapted to engage a notched sector h secured to the pivot pin e. The detent i is operated by a cable or strap j and may be thrown out of action by moving it sideways about a pivot l to rest in a side slot in a fixing plate.
