Description

1,556,095 o. GANs SWIVEL JOINT FOR DOLLS Filed April 19, ,1924
A T Ta awry fill latented ct. 6, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO GANS, 0F WALTERSHAUSEN, GERMANY.
SWIVEL JOINT non noLLs.
Application led April 19, 1924. (Serial No. 707,623.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, OTTO GANs, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, and resident of laltershausen, in the State of Thuringia d Republic of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swivel Joints for Dolls, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in the joints by means of which the limbs of dolls are attached to the body thereof, particularly for walking dolls as described in my co-pending application Serial No. 716,142, tiled May 27, 1924, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a swivel-joint of this character with means for establishing an elastic connection between the thigh and the bo-dy of the doll.
Another object of my invent-ion is the provision of a swivel-joint for walking dolls or the like in which an elastic is establishing a connect-ion between the ball in the sockets in the thigh and the body of the doll, and the thigh, while an arm secured to the ball, and rotating with a shaft for the ball is adapted to be engaged in the moving parts of the walking mechanism of the doll.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
ln the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary front view of a dolls body and thigh, partly in section and illustrates as an example one embodiment of my invention for establishing a connection between body and thigh constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a detail view, partly in section of the 'joint connection between doll body and thigh constructed according to my invention, and showing the limb in the position occupied by the same when the doll assumes a sitting posture.
The lower part of the body 10 of a walking doll or the like, is equipped with the customary sockets or pans 11 in which the balls 12 are movably engaged which are provided with slots 13.
The connection between the balls l2 and the thigh 14 of the dolls limbs is effected by means of a rubber string or elastic which is secured within the ball 12 and passed downwardly through a slot 13 in the ball in which it has a limited movement.
The connection between the thigh 14 and the body 10 of the doll is constructed as follows: The arm 16 is rigidly attached at one end to the ball 12, and rotates around a sha-ft 17 rotatably arranged in a bore of the dolls body. The upper reduced end 18 of arm 16 passes loosely through the pendulum loop 19 which is rotatably secured within the body of the doll to a bridge 2O or the like for allowing the stepping motion of the doll during walking in the usual well known manner.
This arrangement has the advantage over the plate and snap-joint connection described in my co-pending application, that the connect-ion between the limbs and the body is elastical.
It will be clear that changes may be made in the general arrangement and in the construction of the -minor details of' my device such as fall within the spirit and scope specified in the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention, so for instance may the arm 16 be r ade of wire instead of wood as shown, or of any other material suitable for the purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a swivel-joint for walking dolls, sockets in the thigh and the body of said doll, a ball in said sockets having a vertical slot, a shaft for said ball, an elastic connecting ball and thigh, attached at one end in said slot and at the other to said thigh, a walking mechanism for said doll, an arm secured to said 'ball and rotating with said shaft, said arm adapted to be engaged in the moving parts of the walking mechanism for said doll.
Signed at Waltershausen, in the State of Thuringia and Republic of Germany, this 4th day of April, A. D. 1924.
OTTO GANS.
