Abstract

1,059,547. Matching impedances; velocitymodulated tubes. HITACHI SEISAKUSHO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Feb. 14, 1964 [Feb. 16, 1963; July 13, 1963], No. 6326/64. Headings HlD and H1W. A parallel two-wire transmission line 2, 2a is coupled to a waveguide by leading the line into the guide and bending the ends of the line in opposite directions. The ends may either be formed into loops 4, 4a or attached at 6, 6a to the walls of the waveguide. Alternatively, instead of being attached, the ends may extend into, and form the inner conductors of, a pair of coaxial choke stubs. The invention may be applied to a backward-wave tube using a bifilar helix (15, Figs. 3, 4). The helical conductors are continued at the input and/or output end in the form of a two-conductor line (17) which is coupled as above described to the waveguide (16). The waveguide may extend parallel to the helix within the same envelope.
