Abstract

A method for hydrotreating a pyrolysis gasoline fraction separated from a gaseous mixture produced by the pyrolysis of a hydrocarbon boiling above propane to hydrogenate the diolefins contained therein comprises (a) introducing the pyrolysis gasoline fraction and a gaseous stream containing hydrogen into a reaction zone containing a noble metal catalyst, (b) maintaining the temperature in the zone at 49 DEG to 204 DEG C. and (c) withdrawing a hydrotreated product from the zone, a portion of the hydrotreated product being admixed with the pyrolysis gasoline feed fraction. A platinum or palladium catalyst is used. The pressure may be from 200 to 1000 p.s.i.g.
