Abstract

105,100. Joel, H. F. March 29, 1916. Battery lamps.-In a bat. tery lamp of the kiud in which the lamp casing is rotatable for switching purposes, the battery cover is made wholly of metal and constitutes a part of the electric circuit, and means are provided for positioning the battery within the casing. As shown in Fig. 1, the metal base B of the lantern is provided with a projection W which can be brought into contact with a metal strip and attached to one of the battery terminals to complete the circuit through the battery cover B. The other terminal H is in permanent contact with the central terminal F of the lamp-holder. The projection W may take the form of a stud or spring. The battery cover R, which also forms the lamp support and reflector, screws into the base B and supports the glass D. The battery E is held in position by a tongue J, which projects from a sheath of insulating-material 0 at the top of the battery and engages in a recess in the casing A. The tongue J is recessed to receive the metal strip V. A magnetic lock I is provided. Fig. 10 shows a modification in which the lamp is at the side of the battery casing, and in which the battery cover B is rotatable to bring a projection W into contact with the terminal V. The other terminal is provided with a metal spring T, which contacts with a metal strip Y, against which the central terminal of the lamp bears. The front b of the lantern is adjustable for focusing by means of a slot Z and stud a, as shown in Fig. 11. Specifications 5170/12 and 5073/13 are referred to.
