.To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH Sacnsa citizen of the United States and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Magnetic Lamp-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to produce a device of the character specied having features of novelty and advantage, and particularly a portable device of this type, that is to say, one in which the magnet is energized by a. battery which it supports.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a central vertical section of one embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of another embodiment of the invention. Fig. 3 is a diagram of the circuit.
Referring to Fig. 1 a denotesiin general the battery, b theniagnet, c the lamp and d the. switch. The invention is no *concerned with the type of battery used. As shown it is a three-cell dry battery. 1 denotes the inclosing shell in the bottom of which is located the magnet b with the energizing coil 2 and the terminals 3,5'4. Above the magnet and separated therefrom by a strip of insulating Vmaterial 5 is the battery a with one pole of which one terminal t of the energizing coil is in electrical contact. rlhe other terminal of the coil is in contact with a conducting strip 6 insulated from the shell by the layer of insulating material 7 and extending up to make contact with the pin 8 of the switch which is screwed into a socket 9 secured in the shell. The switch as shown has a rotatable cap 10 with Contact pins 11,

one of the terminals of the lamp, as 16, conf tacting with the other pole of the battery as at 17. When the switch is turned to f on position the circuit isv established ythrough theV lamp and magnet coil as clearly seen in Fig. 3. This energizes the magnet Iand lights the light, and the device can be attachedn to any suitable metallic surface where it will be sup-ported in position by the magnet. The sockets 9, 15 are made of the same size so that the switch and the light can be interchanged as to position. It will be observed that the battery is removable from the casing by rst removing the magnet and then the battery. It will also` be observed that as each part is put into place it makes proper electrical contact with the other parts without the intervention of any additional wiring system.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the construction is the same as that shown in Fig. 1 except that the battery is a separable part and carries its own switch 20 and is threaded into the socket 2l in the casing, and the light is threaded into a socket 22.l Here the battery and light are interchange-- able, while in the case of Fig. 1 the' switch and the light are interchangeable. In either case the position of the lamp can be altered from one socket to the other by interchanging with the switch, which in one case is separate from and in the other` mounted on the battery.
I am aware that there are other embodiments of my invention which can be advantageously employed, and I do not wish to be understood aslimiting myself to the eX- act forms herein illustrated and described, which have been selected only for the purposes of illustration and description.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a device of the character described, an inclosing shell, threaded sockets in two walls thereof electrically connected, a translating and a controlling device adapted to be interchangeably located in said sockets, a self-contained source of electrical energy located within said shell with one pole in electrical connection with a device in one of said sockets, and an electro-magnet located within said shell with one terminal in electrical contact with the other pole of the electric energy source and its other terminal electrically connected with the device in the other of said sockets, substantially as described.
2. A base of magnetic material, an energizing coil therefor, a battery mounted on the base, a plurality of current taps mounted on the base, a circuit including said coil, battery and taps, normally open at the latter, a switch and a translating device adapted to be interchangeably mounted in said taps to complete the circuit, said switch being operable to make and break said circuit.
3. A base of magnetic material and an energizing coil therefor, a casing secured to said base, a battery located Within said casing above said base, electrical connections between one pole of said battery and one terminal of said coil, a current tap at the side of said casing, and a second current tap in the end thereof, an electrical connection between said current taps constituted by said casing, an electrical conductor having one end connected with the other terminal of close said circuit.
