1,050,860. Modifying metallic surfaces. PYRENE CO. Ltd. Aug. 13, 1965 [Sept. 3, 1964], No.36121/64. Heading C7U. A steel surface is phosphate coated using an acidic zinc or ferrous primary phosphate solution, rinsed in water and then in a hot aqueous dilute solution of ammonium primary phosphate and/or triethanolamine dihydrogen phosphate. Rusty steel is cleaned in hot alkali, rinsed in hot and cold water, acid derusted, water rinsed, neutralised and rinsed again, if only the steel is cleaned in a phosphoric acid/solvent solution.
