Abstract
105,076. Packard, R. G. March 21, 1916, [Convention date] Breech actions, sliding breech - block; firing - appliances; trigger guards; stocks.-Consists in providing a bolt-action rifle with (1) a thumb-actuated trigger on the upper part of the stock and a hood-like trigger guard provided with a peep sight and preferably carried by the cocking-piece, and (2) a notched grip plate beneath the stock, terminating in a hook-like projection. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the trigger guard- G comprises a hood screwed to the cocking-piece U and sliding in grooves in guides G<1> rising from the breechbody on each side of the trigger I. When the gun is cocked, the guard covers the trigger I, which consists of a plunger eliding in a hole in the casing, and actuating the lever cam M on the sear N by means of a lever J passing through a slot in a guide-post K. The bearing-hole for the trigger is surrounded by a grooved flange P, Fig. 2, to exclude moisture. The peep-sight A is mounted at the top of the hood G. The grip plate H has notches e to fit the fingers, and terminates at the rear end in a hook d.
