Abstract

1,048,946. Systems for dimming vehicle headlamps. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Sept. 29, 1965 [Oct. 21, 1964], No. 42872/64. Heading H2H. A system for dimming the headlamps 16 of a motor vehicle comprises a transistor 15 having its collector emitter path in series with the lamps, means being provided to vary the base current of the transistor to control the lamp current. The base current control means comprises a second transistor 14 having its collector connected to the base of the transistor 15, the transistor 14 being controlled by means of a potentiometer 13 connected across the battery 11, 12. A photo-cell 17 is included to make the system responsive to incident light. If required an amplifier may be included between the photo-cell 17 and the transistor 15.
