Abstract

The tension control mechanism for the drive or brake of a web-roll includes a dancer roller 2 suspended in a loop of the web 1, Fig. 2 (not shown), said roller being journalled in slide pieces 5 and 6 attached respectively to endless chains 9 and 10. The tensioning bias of the roller 2 is achieved with a motor (17) driven induction coupling 16 with a selectably induced torque output, the output of the coupling being connected to the sprockets 11 and 13 of the chains 9 and 10. A potentiometer 22 or a detecting element such as a photo-electrically or electromechanically working induction transmitter is geared to the shaft 15 of the sprockets 11 and 13, and provides a control signal for the drive or brake mechanism. The motor driven induction coupling can also be applied to the pivot axis of a pair of levers supporting a dancer roller, to give the dancer roller the necessary tensioning bias.
