Abstract

1280071 Feeding webs WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 19 March 1970 [14 April 1969] 13254/70 Heading B8R In a multi-colour printing press a printed web B is wound into a roll 5 by means of two supporting rollers 3, 4; a common drive, coupled to the principal drive of the press and including stepless control gearing 9, drives roller 4 through bevel gears 12 and stepless control gearing 14, drives roller 3 through bevel gears 11, and also drives feed rollers 6, disposed upstream of roller 3, through bevel gears 10 and stepless control gearing 13. In operation, the speed of the feed rollers 6 relative to the speed of the roller 3, which guides the web on to the roll 5, is controlled by adjustment of the gearing 13 so that the web tension between rollers 6 and 3 is maintained at an optimum value; the speed of roller 4 is set at a value to ensure optimum tightness of the roll 5, by adjustment of the gearing 14; and accurate registration of the web with the printing press is set by adjustment of the gearing 9. The gearing 13 may be replaced by control gearing 15 positioned between the bevel gears 10 and 11.
