Abstract

959,448. Electric correspondence control systems. COTTON, SILK & MAN MADE FIBRES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Aug. 9, 1961 [Aug. 13, 1960], No. 28101/60. Heading G1N. [Also in Divisions D1, G3 and G4] A scutcher for fibrous material is controlled partly through an open loop in accordance with the speed of the input rollers and the input thickness of the material, and partly through a closed loop in accordance with the thickness of the output. As shown (Fig. 1), a signal representing the input thickness T1 is produced by a transducer TR1, modified to f(T1) in a predetermined linear manner by function generator FG, and fed to a motor controller MSC1 together with a signal representing the speed V1 of the input roller R1, measured by tachogenerator TA1, the controller energizing the output drive motor VSM to run at a speed given by V2 = f(T1) À V1/T, where T is the desired output thickness. The actual output thickness T2, measured at TR2, is also compared with the desired thickness T, and the difference (T2-T) is fed via motor controller MSC2 to motor SM, whose output shaft Sh assumes an angular portion indicative of #(T2-T)dt, and is coupled to function generator FG to control the constants in the linear function t(T1), thereby ensuring that the output speed is such that the output thickness T2 is equal to the desired thickness T.
