Abstract

1,046,450. Silos. A. MARSHALL. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 28, 1962], No. 48828/62. Heading A1F. A tower silo comprises a framework of inclined struts 10 within which is located a silage container 30 of flexible material having its lower edge bounded by a hoop 36 which is raised from the ground by means of ropes 14 to expose the silage within the container. The container 30 is formed as a frustum of a cone and comprises a sheet of plastics material held between upper and lower hoops 36 and kept taut by means suspended from a bridge structure 14 extending across the upper end of the framework. A cover 54 closes the upper end of the container and is provided with means allowing the escape of gases generated within the container but preventing the entry of air, such means comprising a length of flexible tube connected at one end to the cover and normally in a collapsed condition. A fan or blower 66 projects silage material through tube 68 and jointed nozzle 70 into the container. The silo is provided with a concrete base 26 provided with a channel 40 to receive the lower hoop 36.
