1,046,240. Boundary layer control. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. Nov. 13, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 44870/63. Heading F2R. [Also in Division F1] The rotor and stator vanes of an axial-flow pump, turbine or pump-turbine are carried by radially-extending hollow porous cylinders. Fluid for boundary layer control is fed to the interiors of the hollow cylinders, whence it escapes through the pores to provide boundary layer control at the outer surfaces of the cylinders. In the case of the rotor, the fluid is fed from a stationary annular chamber surrounding the rotor shaft into a radial duct in the shaft and thence through a longitudinal duct in the shaft to the interiors of the porous cylinders.
