Abstract

1,083,208. Centrifugal pumps; hydraulic turbines. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. Dec.1, 1965 [Dec. 2, 1964], No.50975/65. Headings F1C and F1T. The rotor 3 of a pump is provided with turbine blades 13, 26 on the shrouds 24, 25 whereby, after the water level has been depressed below the rotor by compressed air, water under pressure supplied through pipes 14, 16 can be directed through inclined nozzles 20, 21 on to the turbine blades to run the rotor up to the synchronous speed of the synchronous driving motor 2. After impinging on the blades 13, 26, the water is exhausted either through drain pipes 15, 17 or through clearances 22, 23. The turbine blading may be provided on one only of the shrouds 24, 25 and may be attached to the rotor instead of being formed integrally with it.
