Abstract

1,045,753. Fluid blast switches. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. June 12, 1963 [June 12, 1962]. No. 23389/63. Heading H2B. A fluid blast circuitbreaker employs a fluid both to operate the contacts and to extinguish the arc, the fluid being applied under pressure beneath a piston 11 to drive a sliding contact 3 away from a pin contact 2 and thus to move a cylindrical metal or insulating member 8, attached to contact 3, to uncover ports 13 in insulating wall 1 of the breaker to allow a flow of the fluid through the contact space. In the open position contact 3 is moved behind a flange 4 of a conducting portion 7 of the breaker housing to protect the contact surfaces from arcing. Movement of contact 3 is damped by narrow channels 15. Contact 3 and member 8 are interconnected by insulating bars 12 of resin impregnated glass fibre. Pin contact 2 may be withdrawn for voltage isolation.
