Abstract
An aqueous solution of cobalt acetate and/or propionate is obtained from the aqueous cobalt-containing product of an oxo-hydroformylation reaction between hydrogen, carbon monoxide and an olefine to form cobalt carbonyl and an aldehyde. After separation of the hydrocarbon phase the aqueous solution is oxidized with molecular oxygen in the absence of alkali and in the presence of acetic and/or propionic acid. The excess free acid is removed in a concentration stage.
