[Also in Division A3] A disposable diaper comprises an absorbent layer which may be plies of crepe tissue or fluffed wood pulp 20-120 mils. thick, and a facing sheet of a water-repellent film not exceeding 1 mil. thick, which may be of polythene, polypropylene or other material, which is perforated to allow moisture to pass through to the absorbent layer. The diaper may also have a waterproof backing sheet, e.g. of plastic film, cellulose acetate or waxed paper. The perforated facing sheet 14, Fig. 1, overlaps the absorbent layer at the side portions and is glued to the backing sheet 11 along lines 15. A two-ply diaper, Fig. 3, has a fluffed wood pulp absorbent layer 18 encased between two layers of non-woven fabric embossed along the edges and covered by a perforated facing sheet. The facing sheet may be perforated by needle punching over the entire area, the part of the film which is punched out being embedded in the absorbent layer to strengthen and stabilize the unit.
