Abstract
1,160,625. Sanitary napkins. MOLNLYCKE A.B. 4 April, 1967 [28 April, 1966], No. 15290/67. Heading A5R. In a sanitary towel comprising an absorbent core member enclosed within an envelope consisting of a non-woven non-absorbent soft material, the envelope is perforated on that side which is intended to face the body of the wearer and preferably is liquid-tight at the edges thereof and on that side which is intended to face away from the body of the wearer, a wadding-like layer being interposed between the absorbent core member and the envelope. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the towel comprises an absorbent core member 1 enclosed within an envelope 2, a soft layer 3 of wadding being interposed 'between the core member and the envelope on that side of the towel which is intended to face the 'body of the wearer. Situated within the core member may be a liquid-dispersing layer 4 in the form of a thin sheet of cellulose wadding; situated adjacent each side of the core member may be sheets 5 and 6 of cellulose wadding. The absorbent core member preferably consists of dry defibrated cellulose. The envelope may consist either of a fibrous material which has been rendered hydrophobic by special treatment or of a material which itself is hydrophobic without such treatment; the envelope thus may consist of rayon fibres which have been rendered hydrophobic or of a layer of paper which has been rendered hydrophobic and water-repellent by passage through a bath of paraffin. The soft layer may consist of a wadding which allows liquid to pass directly to the absorbent core member but which neither absorbs nor allows lateral transport of liquid within itself; the soft layer thus may consist of rayon fibres or of polypropylene fibres which have been treated to have these properties. Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) illustrate various sizes, shapes and patterns for the perforations of the envelope. Fig. 5 (not shown) illustrates that such perforations may extend into the edges of the towel.
