Abstract
1471721 Laminates PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 20 Aug 1974 [20 Aug 1973] 36489/74 Heading B5N [Also in Division A5] A disposable absorptive device, e.g. a diaper, sanitary napkin or incontinence pad, includes an absorbent body 23 and a liquid-impervious back sheet comprising two adjacently disposed hydrophobic liquid-permeable layers 24, 25, the first layer having a void volume of not more than 5% and the second layer having a void volume of at least 60%, the combination of the layers being such that they allow the passage of vapour but not the passage of liquid. The first layer 24 may comprise a web of perforated polythene, the perforations perferably being formed in bosses provided in the web, and the second layer 25 may be a creped tissue layer, a fibrous web impregnated with a paraffin wax, or a flexible open-celled polymeric foam material. In the diaper of Fig. 1, the layer 24 is folded round absorbent body 23 to provide margins 26, 27 which may be perforated. Margins 27 may be folded over the absorbent body to provide flaps which may, or may not be, attached to a top sheet 22. Sheet 22 may comprise a hydrophobic non-woven rayon web bonded with a thermoplastic binder, specified materials for body 1 being multiple layers of creped tissue, wadding, cellulose, airfelt materials, natural sponge and synthetic absorptive materials.
