Abstract

1294753 Diapers RIEGEL TEXTILE CORP 24 Nov 1970 [24 April 1970] 55930/70 Heading A3V A disposable combination diaper 10 and protective cover 17, which may be disposed of by stripping off the cover 17 and flushing the diaper in an ordinary water, closet comprises a dispersible, fluid permeable body contacting layer 11 for receiving liquids of the wearer, a flushable, liquid absorbing, interior pad 13, and at least one layer 14 of a cellulosic sheet material positioned either side of said interior pad for providing strength and additional absorbency to said pad, and a protective cover of moisture impervious sheet material superimposed on said pad and secured to the body contacting layer along longitudinal and transverse edges thereof to form therewith an envelope around said interior pad. Said contact layer 11 comprises hydrophilic, flat, ribbonlike airated, regenerated cellulose fibres of the generally collapsed multi cellular form having natural bonding characteristics, and may be creped in the transverse direction of said diaper for wicking moisture towards the longitudinal edges of the diaper, and extend throughout the length and width of said combination diaper and protective cover to provide strength and absorbency thereto. Said pad 13 comprises a batt of cellulosic fibres. The protective cover overlaps, and is bound to by heat sealed lines 25, the fluid permeable body contacting layer to prevent leakage at the longitudinal edges of the diaper and for providing a strong pinning area at the corners of the diaper in the unfolded condition. The transverse edge of the combination includes embossed portions 30 for uniting the body contacting layer and the protective cover with each other and with the interior pad. Preferably the embossed portions 30 include a plurality of adhesive deposits 31 disposed within the embossed portions to help bind together the component parts of the diaper. The interior padding may not be long enough to extend into the embossed region.
