Abstract

1,041,006. Two-part couplings for high voltage connections. ELASTIC STOP NUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 3, 1965 [Feb. 14, 1964], No. 4773/65. Heading H2E. An electrical connector for effecting high voltage connections, e.g. to transformers, comprises plug-and-socket members each having a body of resilient insulating material 40, 140 receiving a contact member 22, 122 attached to a cable 10, 110 which is a water-tight fit in the rear part of the body. An inner layer of resilient conductive material 42, 142 surrounds and is in electrical contact with the inserted contact member so that any air trapped between the contact and inner layer is not electrically stressed and corona breakdown is prevented. The end surfaces 48, 148 of the inner layer of the socket and plug are in abutment contact so that any air trapped between the plug and socket as they are mated is also not electrically stressed. Ethylenepropylene terpolymer may be used for the insulating body, and compounded with carbon black for the conductive layer, the joint between the two being continuous and void-free.
