A plug or socket connector has contact members 20 secured in the main insulating body 30, e.g. of polyvinylchloride, the contact pins 20 being directly connected with the conductors 26 of an incoming lead 28, these connections and the parts of the pins secured in the body being provided with selected high quality insulation 32, of good insulation resistance and dielectric strength. The insulation 32 may be a coated varnish or an insulating sleeve shrunk on to the pin 20. Suitable insulation material 32 may have a phosphate basis or comprise a copper oxide layer, while suitable varnishes include phenolformaldehyde compounds, epoxide resin, polycarbonate compounds or stoving enamels. Sleeve materials may be polyamide, polystyrene or similar thermoplastic materials. The body may comprise a single moulding, as shown, or may be formed in two parts. An earthing contact 50, Fig. 4, may be incorporated in the plug and held in an aperture in one part of a two-part body with the bent ends extending laterally therefrom. Alternatively, the body may be rendered conductive by the addition of carbon black and earthed.
