In a gas plug-socket a tubular member 8 which is rotatable but axially non-displaceable is sealed against the socket 1 by a sealing ring 7, and a plug 25 is non-rotatably coupled to the member 8 by balls 17 in the member and which are pushed radially inwards to engage in lateral recesses of the plug when the latter rotates the member. The member 8 is formed with a valve seat 10 and is provided with cam surfaces 13 which operate on a pin 11 carried by an axially-displaceable, spring-loaded valve 12 and to open the valve when the member 8 is rotated. There is a fixed stop pin in the member 8 which engages in a segmental recess of the cap 3 to limit rotation of the member between the open and closed positions of the valve, and a spring-operated pin 21 which normally locks the member 8 against rotation but which, by insertion of the plug 25, is lifted and caused to drop into one or other of two bores in the end 19 to produce an audible locking sound indicating the beginning of opening and open positions of the valve. A screen 16 prevents unauthorised actuation of the valve.
