Abstract

New compounds of formula <FORM:1039240/C2/1> where R1, R2 and R3 each represent hydrogen or iodine are prepared by (1) treating corresponding compounds where R2 and R3 are both hydrogen with iodizing agents, or (2) reducing by catalytic hydrogenation compounds <FORM:1039240/C2/2> where X is alkylene containing 2 or 3 C, to amino compounds, converting these with nitrous acid to diazonium compounds, iodizing these to form 4 - (41 - hydroxy - phenoxy) - 3,5 - diiodobenzaldehyd acetals, and splitting off the acetal group with mineral acid. Compounds II are prepared by reacting 4-(41-benzoyloxy - phenoxy) - 3 - iodo - 5 - nitrobenzaldehyde with glycols to form the acetals and hydrolysing the benzoyl group. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds I with carriers. The compounds have coronaro-dilatory activity.
