Abstract

[Also in Division A3] In order to grip nails driven into it, a plastics insert 4, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), secured in a recess, e.g. in a shoe heel 3 (see Division A3) of moulded plastics material or aluminium alloy, has at least two spaced walls 4a-4d transverse to the direction of penetration of the nails. The nails are driven through the upper of two elements to be joined, e.g. the base of a shoe, and thence into the insert 4. The insert 4 is stuck, secured by heating, or clipped in its recess. The spaces between the walls 4a-4d may be rectangular, square, circular or triangular in cross section, instead of the form shown in the drawing.
