Abstract

1,037,579. Reservoir pens. CHROMATIC CORPORATION. Oct. 6, 1964 [Oct. 7, 1963; Sept. 11, 1964], No. 40689/64. Heading B6P. A multiple unit ball-point pen comprisesa barrel 16, Fig. 1, and a cap 18 rotatable thereon. Secured within the barrel is a sleeve 24, Figs. 1 and 6, having a depression 40 in which is slidably accommodated a detent on the cap to limit the angular movement thereof. The sleeve 24 is formed with a smaller diameter portion 24a having two bores 26 accommodating writing units 12, 14 provided with plugs 30 having air vents 35 and pins 32 slidable in slots 38 in the sleeve. The units are urged upwardly by springs 34 and have square parts 33 engaging square parts of the bores to ensure Correct angular alignment. The sleeve portion 24a is formed with two flats 39 to receive arms 62, 64 of a clip 60, having an opening 66 to fit over a knob 41 and arms 68, 70 to engage the plugs 30 and prevent accidental displacement of the writing units. Secured within the cap is a guide sleeve 44 having a cam surface 46 engaging the pins 32. If the cap is rotated in either direction from a central position wherein both writing units are retracted, one of the units is thus projected to writing position with its pen engaging a notch 48, while the other is further retracted. Two slightly different constructions are described with reference to Figs. 7-11 and 12-14 (not shown).
