Abstract
958,084. Multiple retractable, ball-point pens. A. J. FAGARD & CIE. March 12, 1962 [March 17, 1961], No. 9340/62. Heading B6P. A ball-point pen comprises a tubular body member 120 which is closed at the end opposite to the writing end 121 by a cap 172 provided with an integral pocket clip 191. The cap and pen body are interlocked by a radial lug 166 formed at one end of an arm of an elasticallyopening U-shaped plate 165, Fig. 4. A plurality of ball-point writing elements 143, four in the given embodiment, are each attached to a slider 135 by a cylindrical support 141. A spring 146, biasing the writing element associated therewith in the retracted position, is fastened at one end to the base of the cap and at the other end to a socket 138 attached to a slider 135. A tubular member or drum 131 is positioned within the body of the pen and has a number of slots 132 equal to the number of writing elements spaced around the peripheral surface, Fig. 3, associated with an equal number of slots 122 in body 120, Fig. 2. Each slot 132 has a cam surface 133, 134, so that on projection of one writing element, a previously projected writing element is automatically retracted due to the part rotation of the drum 131 in the body of the pen.
