Abstract

The marking device is in the form of a pencil or ballpoint pen having a body and a cap with clip. The cap has two or more fixing portions, complementary to each other, engaging with another item, typically a further cap. The portions can comprise a boss and a recess, complementary to each other, the two items being secured together by sliding in the axial direction. Boss and recess can be of dovetail section, or circular, there being an opening in the recess extending for less than 180 deg. while the boss extends over an arc for more than this. There can also be a locking device to prevent items secured together from sliding in relation to each other, typically a further boss engaging in a socket.
