Abstract
1,036,611. Affixing caps to containers. JOHN WADDINGTON Ltd. Jan. 22, 1963 [Jan. 24, 1962], No. 2607/62. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B5] An end cap of heat shrinkable synthetic resin is affixed to the end of a tubular or conical container by positioning the rim of the container in a groove 2 which corresponds in shape and width to the rim, subjecting the assembly to heat treatment so that the peripheral area 4 contracts, grips and adheres to the container (Fig. 4, not shown). The container may be flanged (Fig. 5, not shown) in which case the peripheral area is greater than the width of the flange, or the container may have a shoulder (Fig. 6, not shown) to accommodate the peripheral area. The peripheral area is stretched radially during manufacture simultaneously with the production of the groove. The container may be composed of synthetic resin, cardboard or stout paper.
