Abstract

1,035,967. Steering gear. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Nov. 27, 1964 [Nov. 30, 1963], No. 48317/64. Heading B7H. A motor vehicle steering gear comprises a steering wheel 4, a deformable safety member 3 and a shaft 2 driving a laterally and/or vertically offset transmission shaft 9 through a chain-andsprocket drive 12 or spur gearing. The shaft 9 is connected to a steering gear 8 disposed ahead of the axis of the front wheels and connected via a rotatable pin 6 and substantially horizontal steering arm 7 to the track rods 7<SP>1</SP> In a modification, the short shaft 2 is directly connected to a steering gear and the steering arm 7 is fast with a crank arm, in the manner of a bell-crank lever, connected by a link to an output crank of the steering gear. The connecting link is axially offset from the shaft 2 and the swivel pin of the bell-crank/steering arm 7 is ahead of the axis of the front wheels.
